Bronny James Sets New Career Highs in Lakers' Loss to Bucks

On a tough night for the Los Angeles Lakers, Bronny James was the only bright spot. The son of NBA star LeBron James played his best game yet, scoring 17 points and making five assists in the Lakers’ 118-89 loss to the Milwaukee Bucks on Thursday night.

With his injured father watching from the bench, Bronny was the team’s top scorer. The 20-year-old made 7 of 10 shots, showing skill and confidence. Lakers coach JJ Redick praised Bronny’s growth and said he wasn’t surprised by his strong performance.

“We’ve been following his progress in the G League, and he’s been solid when he gets a chance with us,” Redick said. “So, tonight’s game didn’t surprise me.”

Bronny got more time on the court because many Lakers players were injured. Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves were out with ankle sprains. LeBron James (groin) and Rui Hachimura (knee) were also missing. Key bench players Dorian Finney-Smith and Jarred Vanderbilt were injured too.

With so many players out, Bronny stepped up. In one memorable play, he threw a long pass to teammate Markeith Morris for a layup, which reminded fans of his father’s famous passing skills.

After the game, Bronny said he is growing more confident.

“I’m getting better with every chance I get,” he said. “I just want to stay ready and make the most of my opportunities.”

This was the third time this season Bronny played in at least three games in a row. He played nearly 30 minutes, the third-highest on the team, behind rookie Dalton Knecht and guard Jordan Goodwin.

Even though the Lakers lost by a big margin, Bronny stayed calm. Redick praised his maturity, saying the young player is handling the spotlight well.

Redick remembered watching Bronny speak at the NBA draft combine before he became the Lakers’ coach.

“I texted LeBron and said, ‘Bronny’s got a good head on his shoulders,’” Redick said. “He just understands things.”

The coach said Bronny has what it takes to succeed in the NBA.

“From the first time I worked with him this summer, I knew he was going to be an NBA player,” Redick said. “And I still believe that. He’s going to have a long career in this league.”

Even though the Lakers had a tough loss, Bronny’s impressive game gave fans hope for the future.
