Bin Shafar Joins Global Leaders Panel Discussion at IDAC Event in the USA

Ahmad Bin Shafar, CEO of Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower), took center stage as a keynote speaker at the International District Energy Association (IDEA) Conference 2024 in Orlando, USA. The conference, themed 'District Energy for Sustainable Cities', gathered influential leaders and decision-makers from the global energy sector.

Bin Shafar underscored the critical role of district cooling systems in sustainable urban development and economic growth. He emphasized that district cooling is pivotal for reducing energy consumption in the cooling sector and advancing towards a low-carbon future. Highlighting the significance of supportive government policies and collaboration with local power providers, Bin Shafar stressed the strategic importance of district cooling for large-scale projects like business districts, airports, universities, and residential towers.

In his address, Bin Shafar noted Dubai's ambitious target of achieving 40% penetration of environmentally friendly district cooling systems by 2030. Given that a substantial portion of energy in the region is consumed for cooling purposes, he highlighted the economic and societal benefits of expanding district cooling infrastructure globally. He called for international cooperation to develop and deploy district cooling technologies widely, positioning it as a crucial component for achieving carbon neutrality worldwide.

Discussing Empower's pioneering role, Bin Shafar showcased the company's advanced management and control technologies, essential for optimizing district cooling operations. He highlighted Empower's collaboration with the United Nations Environment Programme and various research institutions to advance next-generation district cooling systems. Bin Shafar also emphasized technological innovations such as Treated Sewage Effluent and Thermal Energy Storage, which enhance efficiency by conserving water and energy.

Bin Shafar attributed Empower's success to the visionary leadership and directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. He reiterated Dubai's commitment to becoming a global hub for innovative technologies, aligning with ambitious plans to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
