Ashutosh Sharma's 66 Powers DC to Thrilling IPL 2025 Win

In a nail-biting IPL 2025 season opener, Delhi Capitals (DC) pulled off a stunning victory against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Monday, thanks to a breathtaking innings by Ashutosh Sharma. His unbeaten knock of 66 runs from just 31 balls turned the game on its head, helping DC secure a one-wicket win in dramatic fashion.

Ashutosh, who was finding it tough to middle the ball initially, was striking at a run-a-ball 20. However, he exploded in the final three overs, smashing 46 runs off just 11 balls. His fearless hitting under pressure left cricket fans in awe.

A Special Dedication to Shikhar Dhawan

After the match, Ashutosh was named the 'Player of the Match' for his outstanding performance. During the post-match presentation, he dedicated his award to his mentor and former India captain, Shikhar Dhawan.

"I just want to dedicate this Man of the Match award to my mentor, Shikhar paaji," Ashutosh said with a smile.

Shortly after the game, the DC team shared a video of Ashutosh on a video call with Dhawan. The two shared a heartfelt moment, with Dhawan congratulating the young batter for his match-winning performance.

"He was really happy. Love you paaji," Ashutosh said in the video.

For those unaware, Dhawan and Ashutosh were teammates at Punjab Kings (PBKS) during the previous IPL season. Dhawan, who announced his retirement from cricket last year, has been guiding Ashutosh behind the scenes.

A Rollercoaster of a Game

The match itself was a see-saw battle, with both teams looking like the favourites at different stages. LSG seemed to have the upper hand when DC lost quick wickets. However, Ashutosh had other plans.

In the 18th over, he took on Ravi Bishnoi and smashed a massive six into the crowd. He followed it up with a four and ended the over with another powerful six, putting DC back in the hunt.

But the drama didn’t end there. In the next over, Kuldeep Yadav was run out, adding more tension to the chase. With boundaries being the need of the hour, Ashutosh stepped up once again. He ran hard for a double, then played a delicate shot, guiding the ball over the boundary for a six. He finished the over with a four, reducing the equation to six runs needed from the final over.

Ashutosh Seals the Deal in Style

DC skipper Rishabh Pant handed the ball to Shahbaz Ahmed to bowl the last over. On the very first delivery, Pant missed a stumping chance but decided to review for LBW. The decision was overturned as the ball was missing the stumps.

On the second ball, Mohit Sharma tapped the ball for a quick single, bringing Ashutosh back on strike. With five runs still needed, Ashutosh showed nerves of steel. He stepped forward and launched the ball straight down the ground for a gigantic six, sealing the victory for DC.

Ashutosh's fiery knock not only won the game for DC but also marked the arrival of a new star. His power-hitting and composure under pressure were praised by fans and experts alike. The thrilling finish made for a perfect start to IPL 2025, setting the stage for an exciting season ahead.
