A company that works to stop forest fires early has made a new smart drone. This drone can quickly find fires, see where they are, and help firefighters act faster. The company, Dryad Networks, showed this new drone, called Silvaguard, in a town near Berlin, Germany.

Because of very hot weather and climate change, wildfires are happening more often. This new drone can help stop small fires from becoming big disasters. It works with another fire detection system made by the same company, called Silvanet.

Silvanet is a group of small sensors that can be attached to trees. These sensors use solar power and can smell smoke or gases from a fire even before flames start. Each sensor can watch over an area as big as a football field. When a fire is detected, Silvanet sends a message to the Silvaguard drone.

The drone then flies on its own to the fire location and takes pictures and videos using normal and heat-sensing cameras. These pictures and location details are sent to firefighters, so they can see how big the fire is and how fast it is moving. This helps them know how many people and tools they need to stop the fire.

Carsten Brinkschulte, the boss of Dryad Networks, talked about how this system works. He said, “Today, we tested our two fire-fighting tools together. The Silvanet sensors smelled the fire in a few minutes, and then our Silvaguard drone flew by itself to the fire and sent us pictures and videos.”

Right now, the company is waiting for government approval before the drone can be used for real fire emergencies.

Brinkschulte also said, “When it comes to wildfires, speed is the most important thing. The faster we act, the better we can stop them.”

This new idea could help firefighters react quicker and save forests, animals, and homes from big fires.
