Apple Revamping Health App with AI-Powered Virtual Doctor in iOS 19

Post by: Raman Preet

Apple is reportedly planning a big update to its Health app, which will arrive with iOS 19. The new feature, expected to be introduced at WWDC in June, will include an AI-powered virtual doctor. This advanced tool will offer personalised health tips and insights based on the user’s data.

Apple’s Growing Focus on Health
Over the years, Apple has added several health-tracking features to its devices. The Apple Watch can monitor heart rate, blood oxygen levels (SpO2), and even perform ECG scans. It also includes fall detection and hearing health alerts. The iPhone’s Health app already tracks steps, sleep, and other metrics.

However, Apple is now taking things a step further. the company is working on its biggest health update yet. The new feature will act like a virtual doctor, providing insights and advice based on the user’s health data.

Introducing an AI-Powered Health Coach
The new tool, which is currently being developed under the codename Project Mulberry, will function like a health coach. It will be deeply connected to the iPhone’s Health app and will use AI and machine learning to study the user’s health patterns.

For example, the AI coach will be able to:

Analyse heart rate trends and suggest if you need more rest or activity.

Track sleep cycles and recommend changes to improve sleep quality.

Use fitness data to provide tips on workouts or movement goals.

By gathering data from devices like the Apple Watch, iPhone, and possibly other accessories, the coach will offer customised health insights.

Real Doctors Helping Train the AI
To make sure the AI gives accurate and useful advice, Apple has reportedly hired medical experts to help train the system. The team includes:

Doctors specialising in heart health, sleep, and general wellness.

Nutritionists to guide the AI on diet recommendations.

Physical therapists to help with movement and exercise suggestions.

Mental health experts to offer emotional well-being tips.

Apple is also bringing in outside medical professionals to improve the AI’s knowledge and ensure it offers reliable health information.

Possible Subscription Model
Within Apple, some employees are reportedly calling the new feature “Health+”, although it is unclear if that will be its official name. It is also not known whether this tool will be free or offered as part of a paid subscription service.

New Food Tracking Feature
Along with the AI doctor, Apple is expected to introduce food tracking in the Health app. Right now, the app does not have a calorie and meal-logging system, but this is expected to change with iOS 19.

Users will be able to record what they eat, and the AI health coach will provide:

  • Nutritional insights based on the meals logged.
  • Healthier food suggestions to improve eating habits.

Apple’s Long-Term Health Goals
Apple’s focus on health is not new. The company has been expanding its health-tracking capabilities in its products for years. However, according to Gurman, Apple’s future goal goes beyond simply collecting health data. The company now aims to offer actionable advice through AI-powered health coaching.

The revamped Health app with AI guidance is expected to be one of iOS 19’s most significant features. It shows that Apple is moving towards more personalised healthcare and making its devices even more helpful for users' well-being.
