Abu Dhabi to Host 2024 UCI Mobility & Bike City Forum for the First Time

The Abu Dhabi Sports Council (ADSC), in collaboration with the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), will host the 2024 UCI Mobility and Bike City Forum on December 18-19, 2024. This marks a significant milestone as it will be the first time the event is held in the UAE and on the Asian continent.

The sixth edition of the UCI Mobility & Bike City Forum follows successful events in Milan (Italy) in 2018, Paris (France) in 2019, Odense (Denmark) in 2021, Glasgow (Scotland) in 2022, and Bruges (Belgium) in 2023. The Forum is the UCI’s annual conference dedicated to promoting sustainable and active mobility and highlighting cycling's role in the global sustainable development agenda. It gathers transportation and cycling communities, representatives from the UCI Bike City and Region network, National Federations, Continental Confederations, event organizers, city representatives, cycling advocates, and industry experts.

In 2024, Abu Dhabi will host the Forum under its UCI Bike City Label, awarded in 2021, making it the first city in the Middle East and Asia to receive this distinction. The event will follow a similar format to previous editions with a full-day conference on the first day, followed by practical workshops and site visits on the second day. A new feature in the 2024 edition will be the opportunity for participants to attend a UCI World Championship event, as the Forum will coincide with the 2024 UCI Urban Cycling World Championships, scheduled from December 17-21.

In addition to the 2024 UCI Urban Cycling World Championships, Abu Dhabi will host several other major cycling events: the 2024 UCI Cycling Esports World Championships, the 2028 UCI Road World Championships, the 2028 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships, and the 2029 UCI Track World Championships. These events are part of Abu Dhabi’s broader initiatives to promote cycling across the emirate.

In 2021, the Abu Dhabi Government launched Bike Abu Dhabi, a platform aimed at developing Abu Dhabi as a leading global cycling hub and increasing the uptake of cycling as a mode of mobility, leisure, and sport. The emirate is expanding its existing 300km cycling network to approximately 1,000km, including the Abu Dhabi Loop, a 109km segregated cycle-way linking key destinations around the city. These infrastructure developments and other key cycling locations will be featured during bike tours organized for Forum attendees on December 19.
