The Abu Dhabi Police Directorate of Drug Control recently organized educational sessions aimed at increasing awareness about drug abuse and highlighting the pivotal role families play in preventing substance misuse. These sessions were held at Dubai Hills Mall as part of a broader initiative by the Ministry of Interior, spanning a period of ten days under the theme "My Family.. My Greatest Asset."
During these sessions, Abu Dhabi Police underscored their ongoing commitment to educating the community about the dangers associated with drug dependency. They also emphasized the importance of fostering supportive environments through initiatives like the Opportunity of Hope service. This service encourages individuals grappling with addiction to seek treatment voluntarily, leveraging family support networks as a crucial element in their recovery journey.
Colonel Taher Ghareeb Al-Dahari, Director of the Directorate of Anti-Narcotics, highlighted the family's primary role in preventing drug abuse. He emphasized the necessity of open communication within families to shield children and youth from falling prey to substance addiction. Colonel Al-Dahari stressed that fear-based approaches are ineffective in addressing this serious societal issue and advocated for proactive dialogue and engagement.
Faisal Khamis Al-Zahri, Director of the Preventive Program Implementation Branch, showcased the educational efforts of Abu Dhabi Police during these sessions. He utilized informative videos to educate attendees about the harmful effects of drugs, different types of substances, causes of addiction, and relevant legislation aimed at controlling and preventing drug abuse.
The sessions, strategically coinciding with World Drug Day, demonstrated Abu Dhabi Police's steadfast commitment to safeguarding community health and promoting a drug-free society. By fostering awareness, encouraging preventive measures, and supporting individuals in recovery, the police department aims to mitigate the impact of drug abuse on individuals, families, and society as a whole.
