Geneva: Andrea De Domenico, head of the United Nations' OCHA agency in the Palestinian territories, reported on Wednesday that approximately 1.9 million people in Gaza are believed to have been displaced since the onset of the conflict between Israel and Hamas. Speaking from Jerusalem to reporters in New York and Geneva, he highlighted that nearly nine out of every ten individuals in Gaza have experienced internal displacement at least once, with some enduring multiple displacements due to successive military operations.
"We estimate that nine in every 10 people in the Gaza Strip have been internally displaced at least once, if not up to 10 times, unfortunately, since October," De Domenico stated, noting an increase in displacement figures following recent military operations in Rafah and northern Gaza.
He emphasized the profound impact of these displacements on individuals' lives, describing the Gaza Strip as effectively divided by Israeli military actions, leaving hundreds of thousands unable to move freely within their own territory.

Since the conflict began, an estimated 110,000 people managed to leave Gaza through the Rafah crossing into Egypt before it was closed in early May. De Domenico highlighted ongoing humanitarian concerns, including the plight of those unable to return and the broader humanitarian crisis exacerbated by the conflict.
The recent escalation, triggered by Hamas attacks on southern Israel in October, resulted in significant casualties and hostage situations, underscoring the severe humanitarian toll on civilians on both sides.
This account is based on data and statements provided by Andrea De Domenico, reflecting the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza amid the conflict between Israel and Hamas.
