14 winter storm-related deaths reported in Tennessee

At least 14 fatalities linked to weather-related incidents in Tennessee, per the Tennessee Department of Health, as temperatures plummet across the U.S. amid a winter storm, as reported by News Channel 5.

The Tennessee Emergency Management Agency (TEMA) disclosed a fatality on Monday, involving a 66-year-old man who fell through a skylight while clearing snow from a Hickman County business roof.

Around 3:30 pm Monday, a 911 call reported the incident on Highway 100. The man fell 20 feet, landing on a concrete floor, and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to TEMA.

Additional deaths were reported in Madison, Shelby (5), Washington (2), Carroll, Knox, Van Buren, Lauderdale, and Henry Counties. TEMA did not specify how weather contributed to these deaths or provide identities. Middle Tennessee experienced negative temperatures Wednesday morning, expected to rise above freezing by Thursday afternoon.

"The extremely cold temperatures across the region have increased demand on the power system. Businesses and the public have been asked to reduce electric power use. Temperatures are not expected to reach above freezing until at least Thursday," TEMA stated in the report.
