India will host the Women’s World Cup in September-October 2025, and Visakhapatnam has been selected as the top choice for the opening match. Along with Visakhapatnam, four other cities have been considered to host the remaining matches.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has selected Mullanpur, Indore, Thiruvananthapuram, and Guwahati as possible venues for the tournament. This decision comes as the Women’s World Cup will take place around the same time as men’s cricket events and domestic tournaments.
During a meeting of the BCCI’s apex council in Kolkata, it was decided that the tournament will be held across five venues over almost three weeks. The choice of venues took into account factors like weather and travel logistics. Although Mumbai and Vadodara were also considered since they hosted the Women’s Premier League recently, it was decided to avoid these cities. This is because both cities usually experience heavy rain until early October, making them unsuitable for the World Cup.

A source close to the decision shared that the BCCI has now finalized five venues for the World Cup. The list of venues will be sent to the International Cricket Council (ICC) for final approval, as the ICC must approve all details for global events.
Visakhapatnam, which is known for hosting Test matches and the Indian Premier League (IPL), will hold the opening ceremony. The final match could either take place in Indore or Guwahati. The source explained that limiting the tournament to five venues will help avoid any major logistical issues.
Once the ICC approves the venues, a detailed inspection of each location will be carried out to ensure everything is ready for the tournament.
