The IPL 2025 opener between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) was a one-sided game with Virat Kohli leading RCB to a comfortable victory. Kohli scored an unbeaten 59 runs off 36 balls, helping RCB chase down a target of 175 in just 16.2 overs.
The match also highlighted Virat Kohli's huge popularity. It started with Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan dancing with Kohli to a song from the movie Pathaan. Later, the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) honored Kohli for completing 18 years in IPL. But the real drama happened during the game when a fan breached security, ran onto the field, and tried to meet Kohli. The fan even touched Kohli’s feet and refused to leave until security officials intervened and took him away.
In terms of the game, Kohli and Phil Salt played a major role in the chase. The two gave RCB a strong start with a 95-run opening partnership. Salt made 56 runs, while Kohli remained not out at 59. RCB won by 7 wickets, chasing down the target with 22 balls to spare.

Earlier, KKR batted first and scored 174/8 in their 20 overs. RCB bowlers like Krunal Pandya, who took 3 wickets for 29 runs, and Josh Hazlewood, who took 2 wickets for 22 runs, helped control KKR's batting and kept them from getting a big score.
RCB’s chase was full of aggressive shots right from the start. Salt played some great shots, including a brilliant cover drive off Vaibhav Arora, and Kohli also showed his class with flicks and drives. Salt was in great form and hit Arora for a six and four in consecutive balls. He also hit Varun Chakravarthy for several boundaries.
Kohli hit two big sixes straight down the ground off Spencer Johnson, which was one of the highlights of the innings. Salt’s aggressive batting continued as he reached his half-century in just 25 balls. However, Salt was dismissed when his shot off Chakravarthy was caught at third man.
Even though Salt got out, Kohli kept playing well. He reached his 56th IPL fifty in just 30 balls with a stylish drive. RCB's captain, Rajat Patidar, also played some excellent shots, including a big six and four boundaries. Even though Patidar was out, Liam Livingstone finished the chase with some powerful shots, including a four and a six, leading RCB to an easy win.
In the end, RCB chased down the target with ease, winning the match by 7 wickets with 22 balls to spare. It was a dominant performance, especially by Virat Kohli, who once again proved why he is one of the biggest stars in IPL history.
