Massive Fire Destroys Kasongan Market & Homes

A massive fire swept through Kasongan Market and surrounding residential areas in Katingan Regency, Central Kalimantan, on the night of 25 January 2026, destroying between 15 and 30 buildings and kiosks, including sections of a local school.

Firefighters, aided by volunteers, worked for several hours to bring the blaze under control. Authorities have reported that no casualties have occurred so far. However, the fire has caused significant damage to homes, businesses, and essential community infrastructure.

Relief operations are ongoing as affected families begin the process of recovery and rebuilding.

This devastating incident underscores the critical need for effective disaster preparedness, robust emergency response systems, and strengthened community resilience in vulnerable areas.
