UAE Judo Secures Bronze Medal at Tashkent Grand Slam

The UAE Judo National Team made the country proud by winning a Bronze medal at the Tashkent Grand Slam Judo Championship. The event was hosted by the Uzbekistan Judo Federation and was part of the International Judo Federation's official calendar for 2025.

This remarkable achievement came through the efforts of Amr Gad, a UAE judo player who competed in his first-ever international tournament. Despite being new to the global stage, Gad displayed outstanding skill and determination, defeating some of the world's top judo athletes.

His journey to the Bronze medal began with a strong victory against Uzbekistan’s Mavo Nerdiev. He continued his winning streak by overcoming Italian competitor Pellegra, followed by a well-fought win against Kazakhstan’s Juparnazar. In one of his toughest matches, Gad faced Uzbekistan’s reigning champion, Sobirov, and managed to secure an impressive victory.

Reaching the semifinals was a huge milestone for Gad. However, despite putting up a great fight, he was unable to win the silver medal match. Still, his performance was exceptional, and he proudly brought home the Bronze medal for the UAE.

With this medal, the UAE Judo Team secured 8th place in the overall standings, finishing ahead of many strong international teams.

The Tashkent Grand Slam was a major competition that saw 242 male and female athletes from 23 different countries participate. The championship also had a significant prize pool, with a total of €154,000 in cash rewards distributed among the winners.

This Bronze medal marks an important step for the UAE Judo Team, showing their potential on the international stage and paving the way for future success.
