The UAE Gender Balance Council has signed an important agreement with the Posterity Institute to promote gender equality in workplaces. This partnership will help more women take leadership positions in private companies and improve job opportunities for Emirati women.
A Strong Commitment to Gender Balance
The agreement supports the SDG 5 Acceleration Pledge, which was launched by the UAE Gender Balance Council in 2022. This pledge aims to increase the number of women in leadership roles across private sector companies to 30% by the year 2028. As part of this commitment, 35% of companies in the Posterity Institute’s network have joined the pledge to work towards this goal.

Under this collaboration, both organizations will create strategies to support gender-inclusive workplaces. They will share expertise, organize training programs, and develop policies that encourage women to take on leadership roles. In addition, they will work with NAFIS, the UAE National Competitiveness Council, to help more Emirati women find job opportunities in top private sector firms.
Leaders Speak on the Importance of Gender Equality
Her Excellency Mona Ghanem Al Marri, Vice President of the UAE Gender Balance Council, and Dr. Yassar Jarrar, Managing Partner of the Posterity Institute, signed the MoU. The signing ceremony was attended by Her Excellency Mouza Mohammed Al Ghuwais Al Suwaidi, Secretary General of the UAE Gender Balance Council.
Mona Al Marri emphasized that this agreement aligns with the vision of Her Highness Sheikha Manal bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. She pointed out that increasing women's participation in the private sector is essential for economic growth and national progress. She also described the partnership as a great example of how government and private institutions can work together to make a real difference.
Mouza Al Suwaidi highlighted that this collaboration will lead to practical actions, such as training programs, workshops, and knowledge-sharing initiatives. These efforts will help women build leadership skills and find better career opportunities. She stressed that gender balance is not just about fairness but is also necessary for long-term economic success.
Dr. Yassar Jarrar explained that gender equality is more than just a social issue; it is a key factor in driving innovation and business growth. He expressed his commitment to working with the UAE Gender Balance Council to create an inclusive work environment where women can thrive.
Private Sector Joins the Initiative
The Posterity Institute is now part of a growing movement of companies dedicated to gender equality. A total of 71 national and international companies across industries like aviation, tourism, healthcare, banking, oil, consulting, financial services, and media have already joined the pledge. These companies have committed to increasing the number of women in senior and middle management positions to 30% by the end of 2025.
Mona Al Marri noted that the UAE continues to be a leader in gender equality in the region. She pointed out that the country ranks first in the region and seventh globally in the 2024 Gender Equality Index by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). She also said that creating workplaces where women feel supported and valued will strengthen the UAE’s position as a global model for gender balance.
A Future of Equal Opportunities
Dr. Jarrar described the signing of this agreement as a major step toward increasing women’s participation in the private sector. He highlighted that the Posterity Institute’s commitment to having 35% of its network’s companies join the SDG 5 Acceleration Pledge is a clear sign of its dedication to empowering women.
He stated that women’s social and economic inclusion is essential for building stronger businesses and societies. He also emphasized that achieving gender balance should not just be a goal but a reality.
Dr. Jarrar added that this initiative aligns with the vision of the Sustainability CEO Network, which aims to create workplaces where leadership and success are based on talent and competence, not gender.
In conclusion, he reaffirmed that the Posterity Institute will continue working with the UAE Gender Balance Council to promote fairness, inclusion, and sustainability in the region. He expressed confidence that this partnership will help create lasting change, making workplaces more diverse and equitable for future generations.
