UAE Deploys 3 Desalination Plants for Gaza Water Supply

Ambassador Lana Nusseibeh, Assistant Minister for Political Affairs and Permanent Representative to the UN, inaugurated three water desalination plants in Egypt's Rafah. The event was attended by representatives of UN Security Council member states.

These plants aim to meet the Gaza Strip's drinking water needs as part of the UAE's humanitarian response to alleviate Palestinian suffering. The inauguration took place during a visit by a UN delegation to the Rafah Crossing, led by the United Arab Emirates and in collaboration with the Arab Republic of Egypt.

The establishment of desalination plants in Egyptian Rafah is a crucial component of the UAE's 'Noble Knight 3' humanitarian operation. This initiative addresses the pressing water infrastructure challenges in Gaza, ensuring access to safe drinking water for the Palestinian people.

The three new desalination plants, processing approximately 600,000 gallons of seawater daily, are set to provide clean drinking water for 300,000 people. A network of pipes will distribute the water throughout the Gaza Strip, significantly improving residents' access to safe and clean drinking water.

Launched on November 5, 2023, the 'Noble Knight 3' humanitarian operation by the United Arab Emirates includes 105 aircraft delivering a field hospital, water desalination plants, and over 7,126 tonnes of food, medical, and relief supplies to assist the Palestinian people in Gaza.
