Abu Dhabi: The Central Bank of the UAE issued a directive on Monday, instructing all banks and insurance firms to provide customers affected by the recent adverse weather conditions with the option to defer repayment of instalments on personal and car loans for a duration of six months. This deferral period is to be implemented without any additional charges, interest, or augmentation of the principal loan amount.

In addition to loan deferral, the Central Bank assured that damages incurred to vehicles and properties due to the heavy rainfall witnessed across the country last week are covered under insurance policies, specifically those encompassing loss and damage, commonly known as "comprehensive insurance". Insurance companies are mandated to provide compensation for these damages.
Moreover, the Central Bank emphasized that homeowners, whether of individual residences or buildings, covered by insurance, have the right to seek repairs for damages caused by the recent adverse weather conditions.
To safeguard their insurance entitlements, the Central Bank urged the public to thoroughly review and understand their insurance policies. In case of any complaints or disputes with insurance providers, individuals are encouraged to seek assistance from SANADAK, the financial and insurance ombudsman.
