Brigadier Dr. Ali Al Kay Al Hamoudi, Director of the Eastern Region Police Department, explained that the police operations room received a report about the accident on Sunday evening. The bus had overturned at the Wadi Wishi roundabout, located at the entrance of Khorfakkan. Immediately after the call, teams from Sharjah Police, Civil Defense, and National Ambulance rushed to the scene. They worked together to confirm the number of deaths and injuries and to provide the necessary help.
According to Brigadier Al Hamoudi, a state of emergency was declared, and all efforts were made to help the victims. The injured passengers had different levels of injuries, ranging from severe to moderate and minor. They were given first aid on-site and taken to hospitals for further medical care.
What caused the accident?
Brigadier Al Hamoudi stated that early investigations showed the accident happened because the bus brakes failed. This caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle, and it overturned at the right exit of the Khorfakkan city entrance.
Sharjah Police have reminded all road users to follow traffic rules carefully and ensure vehicle safety at all times. They stressed the importance of regular vehicle maintenance to avoid such accidents. Police also urged drivers to stay focused while driving, follow speed limits, and be extra cautious in areas with tunnels, curves, and roundabouts.
This tragic accident highlights the importance of road safety and vehicle checks, especially for heavy vehicles like buses. Sharjah Police continue to work to make roads safer for everyone.
