Sunita "Suni" Williams marked her 59th birthday in a truly unique way—celebrating aboard the International Space Station (ISS) on September 19. As her return to Earth remains several months away, the accomplished NASA astronaut dedicated her special day to crucial tasks aboard the space laboratory, which orbits approximately 400 kilometers above our planet.
Currently on her third spaceflight, Williams engaged in essential maintenance work, focusing on the waste and hygiene compartment, commonly referred to as the space bathroom. With the assistance of fellow NASA astronaut Donald "Don" Pettit, Williams replaced filters to ensure a safe and hygienic environment for the crew aboard the ISS. Their efforts reflect the daily responsibilities that astronauts undertake to maintain the station's operations.
On her birthday, Williams and Pettit also connected with Mission Control in Houston, Texas, for a conference alongside astronaut Barry "Butch" Wilmore. During this session, they discussed their ongoing mission's objectives and upcoming tasks, demonstrating the seamless collaboration between the ground control team and the ISS crew.

In addition to her maintenance duties, Williams co-organized cargo within the Columbus laboratory module, a vital task that optimizes the limited resources available in space. This organization is essential for the efficient functioning of experiments and daily operations on the ISS.
As a delightful surprise for the astronaut, Bollywood celebrities rallied to celebrate her milestone birthday from afar. Saregama Official shared a touching video on Instagram, featuring a compilation of notable Indian stars singing "Happy Birthday" in Hindi. The tribute began with filmmaker Karan Johar extending his best wishes, followed by performances from renowned singers such as Hariharan, Sonu Nigam, Shaan Mukherji, and Neeti Mohan.
This heartfelt virtual gift from the Bollywood community highlights the impact of Williams' journey as an Indian-origin astronaut, inspiring many both on Earth and beyond. With her continued contributions to space exploration, Sunita Williams remains a celebrated figure in the realms of science and culture
