A six-year-old boy who went missing for five days was found deep in a forest in Vietnam, marking a miraculous end to an extensive search. Dang Tien Lam, from Yen Bai province in northwestern Vietnam, was reported missing on August 17 after he wandered away from a stream while playing with his nine siblings.
The boy's disappearance triggered a massive search effort involving over 150 people, including police officers, soldiers, and local volunteers. Lam was eventually discovered by local farmers on Wednesday. The farmers, working in a cinnamon field near the forest, heard the faint cries of a child and located Lam sitting in a patch of cassava bushes approximately 6 kilometers (3.7 miles) from the spot where he had last been seen.

When found, Lam was severely weakened and unable to stand. According to 52-year-old farmer Ly Van Nang, who helped in the rescue, Lam pleaded for help, saying, "I'm so tired, I can't stand up, please carry me up." The boy had survived by eating leaves, wild fruits, and drinking water from the stream.
Photographs of Lam, taken after his rescue, depict him in a red T-shirt and shorts, both soiled and disheveled, with frazzled hair. The local community, touched by the boy’s ordeal, rallied around him, offering cake and tending to his needs.
Mr. Nang reported that Lam had become increasingly despondent as he wandered, unable to find his way home and growing increasingly disoriented. The police called Lam's survival a "miracle" and confirmed that he is now in stable health. They expressed relief on social media, congratulating the search teams and Lam’s family.
The news of Lam's safe return was met with widespread relief and gratitude on Vietnamese social media, where users praised the search efforts and celebrated his return to his family.
