His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, who is a Supreme Council Member and the Ruler of Sharjah, has issued a new Emiri Decree. This decree is about reorganising the Sharjah Women’s Sports (SWS) to make it stronger and more focused on women’s sports.

Independent and Strong on Its Own

The decree says that the SWS will now be an independent government body. This means it can make its own decisions and take legal steps to reach its goals. It will also manage its own money and staff without needing approval from other departments.

Leadership and Office Location

The SWS will be led by Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, who is the wife of the Ruler of Sharjah. She will be supported by an experienced advisor who understands the world of sports.

The main office of SWS will be in the city of Sharjah, but it can open more branches in other cities and areas in the Emirate if the chairperson decides to.

Goals of Sharjah Women’s Sports

The SWS has many important goals. These include:

  • Helping the sports sector grow, especially women’s sports in Sharjah and across the UAE.

  • Supporting Emirati sportswomen and helping them join international sports events and take up leadership roles.

  • Creating better systems to manage women’s sports using international standards.

  • Finding and building local talent in women’s sports.

  • Training young girls to become future sports leaders, working with local and international partners.

  • Spreading awareness about how important sports are and encouraging more women and girls to take part.

  • Creating a friendly and exciting environment for women in sports.

What the SWS Can Do

To reach its goals, the SWS can:

  • Make plans, policies, and programmes to support women’s sports and train leaders.

  • Train and attract talented girls and women in different sports to help them compete globally.

  • Build a system that matches both local needs and international sports trends.

  • Set up legal rules that support the growth of women’s sports.

  • Choose ambassadors who can represent women’s sports at different levels – local, regional, and international.

  • Partner with organisations from the UAE, Arab countries, and around the world.

  • Make long-term plans to raise funds and support sports activities.

  • Increase the number of Olympic sports available for women.

  • Build and improve sports centres and facilities for women.

  • Use international quality standards and practices in managing these facilities.

  • Sign official agreements and contracts with other groups.

  • Make sure sports clubs follow proper financial rules.

  • Find and support new sports talent.

  • Nominate club players for scholarships, based on certain conditions and approvals.

  • Give special permits to female athletes who work in the Emirate.

  • Organise sports competitions, festivals, meetings, and learning events.

  • Use the SWS’s resources to make smart investments.

  • Take on any new tasks given by the Ruler or the SWS chairperson.

Role of the Director

The SWS will have a director, who will be appointed by the chairperson. This person will:

  • Suggest policies and ensure they are followed.

  • Manage the SWS according to the law.

  • Approve rules and systems after getting the chairperson’s final approval.

  • Prepare and suggest the yearly budget and report on spending.

  • Make sure money is spent correctly.

  • Create teams or groups to work on specific tasks.

  • Represent SWS in local and international meetings and events.

  • Sign agreements and official papers on behalf of SWS.

  • Speak for SWS in court or in front of other organisations, if needed.

  • Take on any extra work given by the chairperson.

Supervision of Sports Clubs

The decree also makes it clear that all women’s sports clubs in Sharjah will now be under the direct management of the SWS.
