Sensex Surges 560 Points, Nifty Crosses 22,300 in Relief Rally

In the stock market highlights on April 22, Indian equities witnessed a notable surge driven by a relief rally that swept across both domestic and global markets. The S&P BSE Sensex surged by 560 points, marking a 0.77% increase, to settle at 73,649. Simultaneously, the Nifty50 index ended the day at 22,336, recording a gain of 189 points, equivalent to 0.86%.

Leading the charge on the Sensex were prominent names such as Axis Bank, L&T, Ultratech Cement, Bajaj Finance, Wipro, ICICI Bank, Nestle India, SBI, Infosys, Tech Mahindra, and Asian Paints, each registering gains ranging between 1% to 3%.

Conversely, NTPC, HDFC Bank, and JSW Steel were among the few top laggards, witnessing declines of up to 2%.

In the broader market scenario, the BSE MidCap index saw a rise of 0.9%, while the BSE SmallCap index surged by over 1.3%.

Sector-wise, the Nifty PSU Bank index witnessed a substantial rally of 3.3%, followed by the Nifty Realty sector with a gain of 1.12%, and the Nifty Pharma index with an uptick of 1.5%.
