Sara Ali Khan's 60-Year-Old Brocade Lehenga Inspires a Revival of Vintage Drapes

Sara Ali Khan made a notable appearance at the Ambani family's Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations, held at the iconic Antilia, in a lehenga that was both a fashion statement and a tribute to heritage. Accompanied by her brother, Ibrahim Ali Khan, Sara captivated attendees with her stunning choice of attire, a lehenga made from 60-year-old brocade sarees.

Sara's outfit was a bespoke creation by Mayyur Girotra Couture, reflecting a deep appreciation for traditional craftsmanship. Styled by Ami Patel, her ensemble included a choli, an A-line lehenga, and a tissue silk dupatta. The lehenga was crafted from recycled brocade sarees, some up to 60 years old, that Girotra himself had collected. The designer meticulously transformed these vintage sarees into a vibrant lehenga, melding hues of purple, green, and pink to highlight the rich artistry of Indian textiles.

The blouse, in a striking deep purple, featured a backless design with dori ties and was adorned with gold brocade embroidery, gotta patti borders, and a sweetheart neckline. It boasted half-length sleeves, a fitted bust, and a cropped hem. The lehenga skirt, created from the same brocade sarees, complemented the blouse with its multi-coloured pattern.

Adding to the grandeur, Sara wore a bronze gold tissue silk dupatta with pink borders and intricate zardosi zari embroidery. She styled it by draping one end over her arm and pinning the other end at her waist, enhancing the elegance of her look. Her choice of accessories included a gold and polki choker necklace, jhumkis, and a statement ring.

For her makeup, Sara opted for kohl-lined eyes with a subtle smoky effect, mascara-adorned lashes, and a touch of purple bindi. Her lips were a soft pink, complemented by rouged cheeks and feathered brows. Her curly hair was styled in a centre-parted, half-tied fashion, adorned with a purple flower, completing her ethereal look.
