The Soyuz-2.1b rocket is used for many space missions. Some Soyuz rockets carry astronauts and equipment to the International Space Station. But this launch was different because it was for military use. When Russia sends rockets for science and space research, its space agency, Roscosmos, makes the announcements. But when the launch is for defence, the military handles it.
Plesetsk Cosmodrome is an important place for military space launches. It has been used many times to send military satellites into space. In October, Russia tested a Yars missile from this site. This missile is very powerful and part of Russia’s defence system.
Soyuz rockets have been used for many years. The European Space Agency says nearly 1,700 Soyuz rockets have been launched. This makes it one of the most used rockets in the world. Russia has not shared full details about this new spacecraft, but it will likely help the military in space.
