Norris fastest in Suzuka practice, Verstappen 5th, Tsunoda 9th

Lando Norris drove the fastest lap in the third practice for the Japanese Grand Prix on Saturday. He finished one lap in 1 minute and 27.965 seconds. His time was just a little quicker than his teammate Oscar Piastri. George Russell came third for Mercedes, followed by Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc. World champion Max Verstappen came fifth for Red Bull.

On Friday, there were many small grass fires near the track. Sparks from cars started the fires. Because of that, four red flags stopped the practice. On Saturday, another fire started early in the session. It was stopped again near the end, so drivers lost six minutes.

Max Verstappen spent most of the time testing the car on hard tyres. Later, he tried soft tyres and drove one fast lap. That lap was good enough to put him just ahead of Lewis Hamilton. Hamilton drove the other Mercedes car and came sixth.

Alex Albon (Williams) and Pierre Gasly (Alpine) finished seventh and eighth. Japan's Yuki Tsunoda did well in his first race with Red Bull. He replaced Liam Lawson and came ninth.

Isack Hadjar did better than his Racing Bulls teammate Liam Lawson again. Hadjar came 10th. Lawson finished 12th, just behind Carlos Sainz in 11th place.

Jack Doohan from Alpine had a big crash on Friday. His team worked all night to fix the car. On Saturday, he came 14th. He finished just behind Andrea Kimi Antonelli from Mercedes and ahead of Fernando Alonso from Aston Martin.
