Safeer Mall in Sharjah, a well-known shopping destination, has permanently closed its doors. The mall, which was once a popular spot for both shoppers and residents, shut down two months ago. A representative from the Al Safeer Group of Companies confirmed the closure, marking the end of an era for this iconic landmark.
The blue signage and logo of Safeer Mall have been removed from the building's facade, making it clear that the mall has ceased operations. Located on Al Khan Road, the mall had three floors and two basement levels for parking, serving as a convenient shopping hub for many in the city.
Opened in 2005 by Al Safeer Group, the mall originally started as a discount center before being expanded and renamed Safeer Mall. Over the years, it became a go-to shopping spot for Sharjah residents and a familiar landmark for expatriates and motorists who have lived in the UAE for decades.

Many long-time shoppers were shocked and saddened by the news. Afsha Noori, a Dubai resident who moved to Sharjah 24 years ago, recalled her fond memories of the mall.
"I found out about its closure just before the Eid Al Fitr weekend. Safeer Mall reminds me of my early days of motherhood when I had my first child. We lived in Sharjah for six years, and this mall became our second home. We used to go there for all our household needs, from groceries to kitchenware. I will miss it dearly," she said.
For many, the mall was not just a shopping place but a part of their lives. Anjum Tariq, another long-time Sharjah resident, shared how Safeer Mall played a role in building her first home.
"I have been shopping here ever since I moved to the UAE after my marriage 24 years ago. This place helped me set up my first home, and hearing about its closure feels like losing a piece of my past."
Before the UAE became known for its massive malls and luxury shopping experiences, Safeer Mall represented the classic shopping experience for many. Puja M, who grew up in the UAE, remembers it as a place that had everything.
"It had groceries, entertainment shows for kids, dining options, and a variety of toys. It was a complete shopping experience. Nowadays, malls have high-tech attractions like fountain shows and marching bands, but back then, watching dance performances while grocery shopping was an exciting surprise," said Puja, now 23.
For younger residents, Safeer Mall holds nostalgic memories. Varisha Shahrukh, an 18-year-old Pakistani expat, recalled how her father used to buy her school uniforms from the mall.
Visitors from outside the UAE also have fond memories of the mall. Nilofer Sheikh, who has been traveling from India to visit her daughter in the UAE since 2001, said Safeer Mall was a regular weekend stop.
"Whether for groceries or just to take a break from household responsibilities, it was always a convenient place to visit. Even when I lived in Rolla, it was easy to get there using public transport," she said.
Safeer Group has been active in the UAE since 1985, starting with Shop N Save supermarkets in Sharjah. In 1997, the group launched a discount market, followed by Safeer Market in Nahda in 2000. The flagship Safeer Mall opened in 2005 along the Dubai-Sharjah highway, quickly becoming a major retail destination.
While Safeer Mall in Sharjah has closed, the group continues to operate hypermarkets and marts across the UAE. Other Safeer Malls in Ajman and Ras Al Khaimah remain open, along with Century Mall in Dubai’s Hor Al Anz East, which has been operating since 2003.
