New Finds Reveal Lost Secrets of Ramesseum Temple

A group of Egyptian and French history experts found old tombs and buildings near the Ramesseum Temple in Luxor, a city in the south of Egypt. This was shared by Egypt’s Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities.

The team found several tombs from a very old time, called the Third Intermediate Period (about 1069 to 525 years before Christ). They also found places where people kept olive oil and honey near the temple.

Inside the temple, the team found something very special. They found the "House of Life." This was like a small school connected to the temple. It had drawings, toys, and other things children might have used to learn. This is the first time a school has been found inside the Ramesseum Temple.

They also found some buildings that were probably used as offices. These were on the east side of the temple. People might have worked there to manage temple work and local goods.

Mohamed Ismail Khaled, a top official from Egypt’s history department, said this temple was not only a place to pray but also a center where goods were stored and shared. It helped many people who lived and worked nearby, including workers who made things for the king.

Egypt’s tourism minister, Sherif Fathy, thanked the team for finding more about the temple and how it was used by people long ago.

The Ramesseum Temple was built by King Ramses II. He ruled Egypt from 1279 to 1213 BCE. His time as king was one of the longest in Egypt’s past. In 27 BCE, an earthquake broke parts of the temple.

These new things found at the temple help us understand more about how people lived, learned, and worked in ancient Egypt.
