Dubai, UAE: His Highness Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council, honoured the outstanding athletes and teams at the prestigious Sheikha Hind Women’s Sports Tournament on Wednesday. The event, the largest of its kind, was held under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Hind bint Maktoum bin Juma Al Maktoum, the wife of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
The tournament, which ran from October 16 to October 30, received a remarkable turnout of over 1,200 athletes from various government departments, institutions, and private sector entities. The athletes competed across eight sporting disciplines, showcasing their talents and determination in what has become a celebrated event for empowering Emirati women, particularly in the realm of sports.
Sheikh Mansoor, in his address during the closing ceremony, thanked Her Highness Sheikha Hind for her unwavering support of the event and for her broader efforts in championing women’s empowerment in sports and beyond. "This tournament holds a special place in our hearts as it is named after Her Highness Sheikha Hind, a woman who has long been a pillar of support for Emirati women. Her commitment to empowering women reflects the leadership’s vision for a society where women thrive in all sectors,” he said.
He went on to congratulate all participating teams, commending them for their hard work and dedication. "Whether you win or lose, your participation and commitment to sport are what matter the most. I extend my special congratulations to the winning teams, but all those who competed here today are winners,” Sheikh Mansoor added.
The event, held at various venues across Dubai, was also attended by His Excellency Khalfan Belhoul, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council, and several other key figures, including His Excellency Saeed Hareb, Secretary-General of the Dubai Sports Council, and Nasser Aman Al Rahma, Assistant Secretary-General of the Council.
Dubai Police Dominates with General Excellence
Dubai Police emerged as the dominant force in the tournament, topping most of the competitions and claiming a total of 18 medals. Their outstanding performance earned them the prestigious General Excellence Shield, which is awarded to the entity with the highest number of participants and best overall results.

Dubai Police athletes excelled across a range of events. In the bowling championship, Zakia Darwish claimed first place in the citizen category, while Samantha Shaimali topped the resident category. In the running race, Lisbeth Verheyden from Dubai Police clinched first place in the resident category.
The Padel competition saw Maryam Mubarak and Fatima Al Suwaidi secure the top spot in the amateur beginner category, while Sheikha Al Taher and Aisha Ahmed finished third. In the advanced open category, Sofia Govorosa and Mia Alfa bagged first place.
Dubai Police also dominated in the Badminton championships with Ghareed Al Taheri winning first in the citizen category, followed by Farah Ibrahim in second. In the cycling race, Sheikha Issa topped the citizen category, while Dubai Police athletes swept the expatriates category, with Ola Shekel, Akvil Gedraitt, and Mokhabat Amotzanova taking the top three spots.
The shooting competition was another event where Dubai Police shone, with Ruqayya Makki and Rawda Mohammed Maliki securing first place, while Nada Al Khatib and Alia Al Balushi came in second. In the Obstacle race, the Dubai Police team, consisting of Shahd Budbas, Mona Al Wari, and Lorenda Neruda, clinched first place.
Dubai Police also triumphed in the 3x3 basketball championship, adding another victory to their list.
Notable Performances from Other Entities
While Dubai Police dominated the event, many other teams and athletes from various organizations also delivered stellar performances. In the bowling championship for citizens, Mira Shabib and Reem Jamal from the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs secured second and third places, respectively.
In the residents' bowling category, Aura Michelle from EMA Studio finished second, and Lady Liz from Fame Consulting took third place. In the running race for citizens, Hessa Al Jasmi from Emirates Airlines emerged victorious, while Ruqayya Al Marzouqi from Talabat and Noura Al Khalaf from Dubai Islamic Bank finished second and third. In the residents’ category, Adela Comer from Dubai Municipality secured second place, while Latifa Al Saroukh from the Dubai Club for People of Determination took third.
In the Padel competition, Hanan Al Sayed and Zainab Al Jahran from the Roads and Transport Authority won second place in the amateur beginner category. The Advanced Open category saw Maryam Al Hashemi and Martina Santin from Just Padel Sports Academy finish second, while Mona Al Sahlawi and Lisa Black from Nestle took third place.
In the Badminton championship, Giano Maia from Dubai Duty Free claimed first place in the residents' category, while Celestia May and Donnie Mathieu from Dubai Health Authority finished second and third, respectively. Aisha Foulad from Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services took second place in the citizens' cycling race, while Nadia Ali Khadim from the Roads and Transport Authority placed third.
The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority team, consisting of Noura Al Sarrah, Maitha Al Bastaki, and Sara Shehadi, secured third place in the Obstacle race. In the 3x3 basketball championship, the Dubai Municipality team finished second, with the Mark Dubai team coming in third.
