Saudi Arabia, through the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief), has been working hard to help people around the world who are facing disasters, wars, and other problems. The country has supported efforts to make areas affected by war and mines safer for everyone. One of the biggest problems in these areas is the landmines and bombs left behind from wars. These can harm people, especially when they are hidden underground.

KSrelief has been helping to clear these dangerous mines in countries like Yemen, Azerbaijan, and Iraq. These efforts have cost over $241 million. The goal is to make these areas safer and help people go back to their homes without fear of landmines.

One of the biggest projects KSrelief started was the Masam Landmine Clearance Project in Yemen, which began in 2018. This project has a team of 550 workers, both from Saudi Arabia and other countries. They work together to remove landmines and bombs that are hidden in the ground. The workers have already cleared a large amount of land and have removed more than 486,000 mines and bombs.

The project has helped make the land safe again for the people living there. It has also helped many people who lost their legs or arms because of landmines. KSrelief has given prosthetic limbs (artificial limbs) to over 25,000 people. This allows these people to live normal lives and do their work again.

However, this work is dangerous. Many workers have been killed while trying to clear mines. Around 30 workers have died while doing this important work.

KSrelief’s work is not only in Yemen. In January 2024, the center started clearing landmines in Azerbaijan. This will help the country rebuild and allow people who had to leave their homes to return safely. The project aims to protect everyone, especially women and children.

In April 2024, KSrelief also started a similar project in Iraq. The goal is to remove landmines and bombs from the country, so people can live and work in safety. These efforts will help people return to farming and livestock work, which is important for Iraq’s economy.

KSrelief celebrates the International Day for Mine Awareness every year on April 4th. This day is a time to remind the world about the dangers of landmines and to encourage more people to help clear them. KSrelief’s work helps save lives and rebuild communities, making the world a safer place for everyone.
