Scott Moore, the newly appointed CEO of the Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025, recently shared insights into how Meghan Markle prefers to be addressed. During his first meeting with the Duchess of Sussex earlier this year, Moore was briefed on this distinctive protocol, which he disclosed while reflecting on his encounter during their visit to Canada.
According to Moore, the guidance he received was clear: he should address Meghan as “Ma'am” and refer to Prince Harry simply as “Sir.” This approach contrasts with the more traditional protocol typically associated with royal family members, where they are usually addressed as “Your Royal Highness” before transitioning to “Ma'am” or “Sir.” However, since stepping back from their royal duties in 2020, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have relinquished their “HRH” titles, rendering the formal address unnecessary.

Moore remarked, “I did make sure to ask how I should be addressing them when they get here,” emphasizing the importance of understanding proper etiquette in his new role. This choice to maintain a level of formality is somewhat surprising, given Prince Harry's previous inclination towards informality. In 2020, during a tourism conference in Edinburgh, he encouraged attendees to call him simply “Harry,” a stark contrast to the current expectations set for addressing him and his wife.
The Invictus Games is a prestigious international multi-sport event designed for wounded, injured, and sick servicemen and women, including both active-duty and veteran participants. Founded by Prince Harry in 2014, the Games were inspired by the Warrior Games in the United States and aim to provide a platform for healing and rehabilitation through sports.
During the Sussexes' visit to Vancouver in February, they engaged with the Invictus community on Valentine's Day, participating in winter sports training. This event, dubbed the “One Year to Go” celebration, lasted three days and allowed members of the international Invictus community to prepare for the upcoming Games. Scheduled for February 8 to February 16, 2025, the Vancouver event is set to build upon the success of the 2023 Games held in Germany, highlighting the ongoing commitment to support injured service personnel through sports.
At last year’s Invictus Games, Meghan Markle hinted at the potential of bringing along their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, sparking excitement among fans and supporters of the event. The couple's involvement continues to bring attention and support to the noble cause behind the Invictus Games, ensuring that the focus remains on the athletes and their inspiring stories of resilience and courage.
