President Biden’s Endorsement of Kamala Harris Sparks Democratic Surge
President Joe Biden’s recent endorsement of Kamala Harris as the 2024 Democratic presidential nominee has injected a fresh wave of energy and enthusiasm into the party, according to prominent Indian-American Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi. Over the weekend, Biden announced his withdrawal from the presidential race, throwing his support behind Harris. This move aims to unify the party, especially following Biden’s underwhelming debate performance against Republican nominee Donald Trump.

Krishnamoorthi, a Democratic Congressman from Illinois, described the mood within the party as "exciting," emphasizing the surge of positivity and renewed hope among Democrats. In an interview with PTI, Krishnamoorthi expressed his belief that Harris is well-positioned to challenge Trump effectively. “She’s hit the ground running and has been met with enthusiastic crowds. We now have a genuine chance to reclaim the White House,” he stated.
The momentum behind Harris’s campaign is evident. In just three days since becoming the likely presidential candidate, her campaign has raised over $130 million, a substantial amount even compared to the vast sums available to her opponents. Krishnamoorthi highlighted the significance of this grassroots support, noting that it reflects widespread public backing for Harris.
Addressing the rise of Indian Americans in politics, Krishnamoorthi pointed out that Indian Americans are increasingly asserting their influence. “There’s a saying in Washington: If you don’t have a seat at the table, you’re on the menu. Indian Americans are ensuring they have a seat, making sure their issues are addressed and contributing to society,” he said.
Looking ahead, Krishnamoorthi emphasized the need for the next president to tackle a range of critical issues. These include protecting reproductive freedoms, reforming the immigration system, and addressing global challenges such as competition with China. The next administration, he suggested, will need to balance immediate concerns with long-term vision, ensuring policies that improve the standard of living and address future challenges.
