In an exciting IPL 2025 match between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), MI captain Hardik Pandya made a surprising decision that shocked even the team owner, Akash Ambani. The match took place at the Ekana Stadium on Friday, and it ended in a 12-run loss for MI.

In the final over of the game, Mumbai needed 22 runs to win. Hardik started well by hitting Avesh Khan’s full toss for a big six over extra cover. Then, he ran two runs by flicking the next ball through mid-wicket. With four balls left, MI needed 14 runs. On the third ball, Hardik decided not to take a single run, even though his batting partner Mitchell Santner was almost at the other end, ready to take the strike.

Hardik believed he had the best chance to finish the match himself. But after refusing that single, he couldn't hit a boundary on the next two deliveries. By the time he took a single on the second last ball, the game was already out of MI’s hands. He even threw his bat in frustration, clearly upset that the match had slipped away.

This move surprised many, including Akash Ambani. TV cameras showed him in the stands, and while he didn’t react loudly, his expressions showed he was clearly surprised by what had just happened. A few minutes earlier, MI had made another bold decision by retiring out Tilak Varma and sending in Santner. So, it made little sense for Hardik to not trust Santner in that pressure moment.

Once the game ended, and MI lost by 12 runs, Akash Ambani came down to the dugout to support his players. He shook hands and tried to cheer them up, even though they were clearly disappointed.

Earlier in the match, Suryakumar Yadav kept MI in the game with a strong knock, but after he got out in the 17th over, MI started to struggle. Tilak Varma, who usually plays well, couldn’t find his rhythm and managed only 25 runs from 23 balls before being retired out in the second-last over.

In the 19th over, LSG bowler Shardul Thakur gave away just seven runs, making MI’s task even harder. Avesh Khan, despite being hit for a six on the first ball of the last over, kept his cool and finished the game strongly for LSG.

LSG's spinner, Digvesh Rathi, was one of the key performers. He took the wicket of Naman Dhir, who was looking dangerous on 46. Rathi gave away only 21 runs in his four overs and was named the Player of the Match.

The real star with the bat for LSG was Mitchell Marsh. He smashed 60 runs off just 31 balls, hitting nine fours and two sixes. His powerful innings gave LSG a strong start, which helped them reach a big total of 204 runs.

In the end, MI fell short despite some good moments in the match. But it was Hardik Pandya’s decision in the last over that became the biggest talking point of the night.
