Gazans Cherish 'Refuge City' in Abu Dhabi: Living in Heaven in UAE

Photo : Khaleej times

Abu Dhabi's Emirates Humanitarian City, situated in Musaffah, is a purpose-built complex funded by the UAE government. It serves as a refuge and medical support center for individuals fleeing crises and conflicts globally.

Having previously accommodated Afghan refugees in 2022, the complex now extends its hospitality to thousands of Gazan evacuees under the Gallant Knight 3 initiative, spearheaded by UAE President Sheikh Mohammed.

For many wounded Gazans and their caregivers, the prospect of seeking treatment in the UAE seemed unimaginable. Sahar Jamal, accompanying her injured daughter, described the invitation to continue treatment in the UAE as akin to a dream. Similarly, Jamalat Hafez, accompanying her wounded son, expressed profound gratitude for the opportunity.

The Humanitarian City operates as a self-sufficient community, offering essential amenities such as hospitals, schools, nurseries, entertainment facilities, and family visitation rooms. Liwa Education and the Ministry of Education oversee the education of Gazan children, ensuring continuity with high standards and certifications.

Medical services are overseen by Abu Dhabi’s Department of Health in collaboration with Tamouh Healthcare’s Somerian Health. The hospital provides a range of services, including dentistry, psychiatry, pediatrics, and general medicine.

Groceries and specially catered meals are provided, with Feda Mahmood expressing heartfelt appreciation for the generosity and care received. However, amid gratitude, evacuees like Abdulrahman Alkurdi share the mental strain of worrying about loved ones in Gaza, acknowledging the toll it takes on their well-being.

In response, The Humanitarian City organizes various activities, family visits, and psychiatric support to uplift spirits and provide solace during these challenging times.
