Are you yearning for a luxurious living space but worried about the cost? You don't have to break the bank to achieve opulence. Punam Kalra, interior designer and creative director of I’m the Centre for Applied Arts, shares some budget-friendly hacks to transform your humble abode into a lavish haven.

Firstly, Kalra recommends playing with a neutral colour palette as a calming base, with jewel tones incorporated for statement pieces. For instance, a mustard cocktail table can beautifully complement a macrame tapestry background, while a burgundy recliner can stand out against a beige wallpaper.

Instead of a random approach, Kalra suggests curating a personal style with signature statement pieces. Think crystal chandeliers for elegance, antique Chesterfield sofas for timeless appeal, and Parisian apothecary tables for character.

Adding plush fabrics can elevate the tactile experience of your space. Kalra suggests using satin silk for sheen, embossed velvet for texture, textured boucle for coziness, and milk leather for a natural look.

To make your interior design more experiential, Kalra recommends incorporating conversational pieces like commissioned artwork or gallery walls with monochrome photo frames, each telling a unique story.

For those seeking a sophisticated and traditional aesthetic, Kalra suggests embracing maximalist vintage extravagance. This involves incorporating elements like wood wainscotting, marble tile floors, fur rugs, bracketed wrought iron shelves, suede cabriole sofas, and velvet tufted ottomans, all of which add a touch of decadence to the space, making it feel rich and inviting. With these hacks, you can achieve a luxurious living space without breaking the bank.
