Most Innovative European and British Start-ups Set to Make Their Mark in Dubai This October at Expand North Star
Dubai, UAE: Expand North Star, the world’s largest start-up event, is returning to Dubai Harbour from October 13-16, 2024, with its biggest-ever European and British participation. The 9th edition of the renowned start-up exhibition will host more than 2,000 start-ups, with over 400 coming from Europe and the UK.
Organized by Dubai World Trade Centre and hosted by Dubai Chambers, Expand North Star is a part of GITEX GLOBAL, the largest tech event in the world. The exhibition will spotlight start-ups across various industries, including Agritech, AI, Climate Tech, Fintech, Health Tech, HR Tech, Mobility, Creative Economy, and SaaS. Notably, Germany will lead the European pavilions, debuting with 40 start- ups, followed by Ireland, Poland, Latvia, Austria, and Portugal.
The United Kingdom will have a flagship stand featuring 50 start-ups—double their participation from 2023. France, Italy, and Turkey are also returning with strong delegations. Omar Hassan, Managing Director of Global Growth Hub, UK, commented: “We are excited to see the fastest-growing tech companies in Fintech, AI, Sustainability, and EdTech join this year’s UK delegation.”
The UK, recognized as the world’s third most valuable start-up ecosystem, has a market value exceeding $1.1 trillion and is home to over 150 unicorns and 25,000 funded start-ups. Expand North Star provides these companies with a unique opportunity to expand their reach into regional markets and beyond.
Investors and Unicorns Ready for Expand North Star 2024
European start-ups have seen a 31% increase in funding in Q2 2024, with total investments reaching $16 billion—surpassing Asian start-up funding for the first time on a quarterly basis. Expand North Star 2024 will bring together over 1,200 global investors and VCs, with 30% of them representing Europe’s most visionary investors.
Participants include SpeedInvest, one of Europe’s top early-stage investors wit over €1 billion in assets under management, as well as H Tree Capital from the UK, Startup Wise Guys from Estonia, and Swiss firm Prediction Capital. They will join an exclusive programme of meetings, panel discussions, and the Supernova Challenge, which offers a $200,000 cash prize in the world’s largest pitch competition.
This year’s event will also feature more than 65 global unicorns, including prominent European and British firms like Volocopter, BitPanda, and Climeworks, making it the ultimate event for start-ups to connect with investors, accelerators, and industry leaders.
As part of the world’s biggest tech takeover, GITEX GLOBAL will run alongside Expand North Star from October 14-18, 2024, at the Dubai World Trade Centre. Together, the events will host 6,700 exhibiting companies from over 180 countries, spread across 41 halls, making Dubai the epicenter of global tech innovation.
