Dubai Police have successfully handled 500 money laundering cases from 2022 to 2024, strengthening its role in the UAE’s efforts to fight organized and international crime. These actions, done in cooperation with international law enforcement agencies, have led to investigations totaling over AED 4 billion, including AED 60 million in virtual assets.

Lieutenant General Abdulla Khalifa Al Marri, the Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, emphasized that these accomplishments are a result of the UAE’s strong commitment to fighting money laundering and enhancing global cooperation to tackle financial crimes.

He added, “Following the guidance of His Highness Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, the UAE is focused on creating global partnerships to make our communities safer.”

Collaboration and Human Resource Development Lieutenant General Al Marri highlighted that Dubai Police’s success comes from working closely with national and international partners. “Through the UAE National Anti-Money Laundering and Combating Financing of Terrorism and Financing of Illegal Organizations Committee, we work together with important partners to fight financial crimes. We also focus on training our staff, such as the International Diploma in Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Terrorist Financing, which was created in partnership with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime. This program has trained 116 professionals from different national organizations,” he explained.

Global Cooperation and Intelligence Sharing Al Marri also explained that Dubai Police has been very active in sharing information. Over the last three years, they have exchanged 1,733 financial crime-related files with international partners. This was made possible through agencies like INTERPOL, Europol, and regional and Gulf networks. Dubai Police has also signed many agreements with law enforcement agencies from around the world to improve cooperation.

Using Modern Technology Major General Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Criminal Investigation Affairs, talked about the importance of modern technology in improving investigations. He said, “Dubai Police uses the latest technology to find illegal activities, catch criminals, and work with international law enforcement to fight money laundering.”

Coordinated Approach Brigadier Hareb Al Shamsi, Director of the General Department of Criminal Investigation, said that the police’s success was due to a coordinated approach. “This strategy has helped us track and stop criminals involved in money laundering across borders,” he noted.

Innovative Methods Brigadier Al Shamsi also mentioned that Dubai Police uses creative methods to address different types of money laundering, such as self-laundering, third-party schemes, and virtual assets. He stressed that they are always alert, working non-stop with their partners to keep the economy safe and reduce risks.

“Dubai Police’s success is also thanks to the strong cooperation with public and private partners such as the Dubai Public Prosecution, the UAE Central Bank, the Financial Intelligence Unit of the Economic Security Centre of Dubai, the Ministry of Economy, and customs. Together, we ensure a coordinated response to all forms of financial crime, including money laundering,” Al Shamsi added.
