In line with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to enhance green spaces across the emirate, Dubai Municipality has completed seven major projects aimed at beautifying key intersections and roadsides along Sheikh Zayed and Al Khail Roads. These landscaping initiatives, which have cost AED 245 million, span more than 1.4 million square meters, with the goal of transforming Dubai’s urban landscape into one that seamlessly integrates green spaces with the city’s modern aesthetic.

This initiative is part of Dubai Municipality’s ongoing efforts to enhance the city’s visual appeal while contributing to its sustainability goals. By enhancing prominent intersections with lush greenery, Dubai is reinforcing its commitment to improving the quality of life for residents and visitors alike, while ensuring that the city adheres to global best practices in sustainable urban planning and environmental stewardship.
The completed projects have introduced a total of 2.5 million flowers and ornamental plants, alongside 6,500 trees, all nurtured through advanced irrigation systems that prioritize water efficiency. These green spaces are carefully integrated with Dubai’s existing infrastructure, contributing to the city’s identity as a global leader in both urban development and sustainability.
H.E. Dawoud Al Hajri, Director General of Dubai Municipality, emphasized that the beautification of Sheikh Zayed and Al Khail Roads aligns with the goals of the “Green Dubai Project,” an initiative designed to expand green areas across the city and improve per capita green space. This effort supports the broader vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to make Dubai the best city in the world to live in. “We are deeply committed to enhancing Dubai’s urban environment through sustainable and innovative green projects,” Al Hajri stated. “These projects demonstrate our dedication to fostering a comfortable and healthy environment for residents, while also optimizing the use of natural resources through smart irrigation systems and the promotion of eco-friendly practices.”
Dubai Municipality focused on key intersections along Sheikh Zayed Road, one of the city’s busiest and most iconic routes, with four major landscaping projects. These projects covered a total area of 843,000 square meters, including intersections at Al Yelayes Street and Al Jameel Street (formerly Jarn Al Sabkha Street), as well as the stretch of Sheikh Zayed Road from the Umm Suqeim Street intersection to Al Yelayes Street, spanning a total of 70 kilometers. At these locations, over 1.5 million flower and plant seedlings were planted, alongside 3,500 trees, contributing to a striking visual transformation. The planting also included 290,000 square meters of soil mulching, which prevents soil erosion and adds a refined, natural aesthetic to the areas.
Similarly, three major landscaping projects were carried out along Al Khail Road, covering more than 625,000 square meters. These projects were centered around the intersections with Al Meydan Street, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Street, and Umm Suqeim Street. In these areas, 1 million flower and plant seedlings were planted, alongside 3,000 trees, and 143,654 square meters of soil mulch was applied to enhance the area’s beauty and functionality.
Dubai Municipality’s commitment to sustainability extends beyond these recent projects. In 2023 alone, more than 185,000 trees were planted, averaging nearly 500 trees per day. The emirate’s green space expanded by 234 hectares in 2023, an increase from 170 hectares the previous year. This ongoing effort plays a significant role in Dubai’s environmental strategy, ensuring that the city remains an attractive, green, and sustainable urban hub.
With these projects, Dubai Municipality continues to lead the way in sustainable development, promoting environmental diversity and enhancing the city’s global reputation as a center for innovation and excellence. These beautification initiatives also serve as a reminder of the city’s deep commitment to integrating green spaces into its rapidly evolving urban landscape, ensuring a greener future for all who call Dubai home.
