Even though Betts is sick, manager Dave Roberts is still hopeful that Betts will be ready for the first regular game of the season, which is on Tuesday against the Chicago Cubs at the Tokyo Dome. Betts started to feel flu-like symptoms on the Dodgers' last day in Arizona, but doctors said he was okay to travel to Japan.

Roberts said that Betts has lost some weight because of his illness and is trying to stay hydrated. Betts will not play in the exhibition games but will try to work out to feel better. The team will check on how he is feeling during their day off on Monday.

Betts is moving to play shortstop full-time this season after spending most of his career playing right field and second base. Last season, he hit .289 with 19 home runs and 75 RBIs, helping the Dodgers win the World Series. The team is hopeful that Betts will be ready to play in the season opener.
