The Wenatchee Fire Department rushed to the scene. In a Facebook post, they said, “At around 8 PM, firefighters came after reports of a ceiling falling at Liberty Cinema. Two people were inside, but no one was hurt. The reason for the collapse is still being checked.”

They also shared two pictures. One video showed the floor covered with broken wood and ceiling tiles. Another photo showed big wooden planks still hanging from the roof.

At the time, only two people were inside. Wenatchee Valley Fire Chief Cam Phillips told Seattle that the couple heard strange sounds before the accident. “They heard cracking noises, and the man stood up to check. He walked to the screen, looked up, and shouted, ‘Run!’” Phillips said.

The chief said it was lucky the accident didn’t happen on a busy night. “If this happened on Friday or Saturday, the theatre would be full,” he added.

Many people commented on the fire department’s post. One person wrote, “This building was made in 1919. I’m surprised only the ceiling fell.” Another joked, “Watching Captain America in 3D! Red Hulk smashed! But seriously, glad no one got hurt.” A third person said, “This is why I’m always scared of things falling on my head.”

Sun Basin Theatres, the company that owns the cinema, also gave a statement. Their spokesperson Bryan Cook said, “We are thankful that no one was hurt in this accident.”

Officials are now checking why the ceiling collapsed. The theatre will stay closed until repairs are done. This accident has made people think about how important it is to take care of old buildings.
