In the ongoing investigation into the brutal rape and murder of a 31-year-old doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has made significant developments. Four colleagues of the victim—two first-year postgraduate trainees, a house surgeon, and an intern—are now under scrutiny due to inconsistencies in their statements. These individuals will undergo lie-detector tests to determine if they had any role in tampering with evidence or were involved in a conspiracy related to the crime.
Investigation Focus
The CBI has clarified that there is no direct evidence linking the four doctors to the crime itself. However, the agency is exploring whether they might have been involved in obstructing the investigation or concealing information. Key details from the investigation include:

Timeline and Evidence: According to the Kolkata Police's timeline, one of the doctors discovered the victim's body in a seminar hall around 9:30 am the following morning and alerted the authorities. This timeline was established after the city police initially questioned the four doctors before the CBI took over the case.
CBI Findings: The CBI's investigation has uncovered that fingerprints of two of the four doctors were found in the third-floor seminar room where the body was discovered. CCTV footage captured the house surgeon moving from the first floor to the third floor at around 2:45 am that night. The house surgeon has confirmed this visit. Additionally, the intern was present on the third floor and had interacted with the victim earlier that night.
Events of the Night: Sources reveal that the victim, along with the two postgraduate trainees, had dinner around midnight before watching Neeraj Chopra's javelin event from the seminar room. At approximately 2 am, the two trainees went to the sleep room where doctors rest, leaving the victim alone in the seminar room. The intern reported being in the interns' room, which is situated close to both the seminar and sleep rooms.
Discovery of the Body:The following morning, one of the postgraduate trainees, who had dined with the victim the previous night, went to check on her before the ward rounds. He spotted her body from a distance and promptly alerted his colleagues and senior doctors, who in turn informed the hospital authorities.
Legal Proceedings
The CBI has obtained court permission to conduct lie-detector tests on the four doctors, as well as on Dr. Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, who has faced criticism for his handling of the situation. This permission was granted by a special court yesterday. The lie-detector tests will be administered following the court's approval and the suspects' consent.
As the investigation continues, the CBI's efforts remain focused on uncovering the truth and ensuring that justice is served in this highly sensitive and high-profile case.
