In response to the significant political upheaval currently affecting Bangladesh, major Indian airlines, including Air India, Vistara, and IndiGo, have resumed flights to Dhaka and are offering rescheduling waivers to assist passengers impacted by the recent unrest. This move underscores the airlines' efforts to adapt to the rapidly changing situation in the Bangladeshi capital.
On Tuesday, Air India operated its evening flight to Dhaka but canceled its morning flight due to the escalating situation. The airline has announced that it will resume its regular schedule of two daily flights from Delhi to Dhaka starting Wednesday. Additionally, a special flight is planned to transport passengers back from Dhaka. To aid travelers, Air India is offering a one-time waiver on rescheduling and cancellation fees for confirmed bookings made on or before August 5, applicable to flights between August 4 and August 7.

Vistara and IndiGo, other prominent Indian carriers, are also resuming their flights to Dhaka from Wednesday. Vistara, which usually operates daily flights from Mumbai and three weekly services from Delhi, had previously canceled its flights on Tuesday due to the unrest. Similarly, IndiGo, which typically runs one daily flight from Delhi, Mumbai, and Chennai, along with two daily services from Kolkata to Dhaka, had suspended its flights the previous day.
The recent unrest in Bangladesh stems from widespread protests demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. After 15 years in power, Hasina stepped down on Monday amidst growing calls for her removal, which initially began over a job quota scheme but expanded into a broader political movement. This political instability has led to significant disruptions, prompting Indian airlines to adjust their services to and from Dhaka.
As the situation in Bangladesh remains fluid, airlines are implementing measures to ensure the safety and convenience of their passengers. The resumption of flights by Air India, Vistara, and IndiGo represents a crucial step in restoring connectivity and providing support to travelers affected by the ongoing political crisis. Passengers are advised to stay updated on flight schedules and available waivers by contacting the airlines' customer service centers.
