The Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) has introduced new rules about penalties for breaking environmental laws. These rules explain how penalties will be given and how people can appeal them. The goal is for EAD to take quick action against those who harm the environment and to help stop such damage from happening again. This will help protect the environment in a fair way.

The new rules are based on Law No. (16) of 2005, which organized EAD and its work. These rules apply to people, businesses, and projects that cause harm to the environment. EAD can give penalties for these violations, and they also set out how the violators can challenge the penalties. The agency can enforce these penalties through an inspection system that checks whether rules are being followed.
EAD can impose penalties even if there are no court or government procedures happening at the same time. The penalties include warnings, fines, extra checks on the violator’s activities, stopping their work for a while, taking away their license, or even shutting down their business temporarily or permanently.
When deciding on the penalty, EAD looks at how much harm was caused, how much it will cost to fix the problem, whether the person has broken the rules before, and other important details about the case. This makes sure the penalties are fair.
People who get a penalty can appeal it within 60 days. If their appeal is not decided within 90 days, it is automatically accepted. But, the person still has to fix the damage they caused to the environment. If they don’t, EAD will take action.
Dr. Shaikha Salem Al Dhaheri, the Secretary General of EAD, said these new rules will help the agency keep the environment safe for the future. She added that EAD will work closely with other partners to make sure the rules are followed and the environment stays protected.
