Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority Hosts 40ft Rowing Race for Eid Al Etihad

The Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority is organizing the Eid Al Etihad Traditional 40-Foot Rowing Race on December 2, 2024, along the Abu Dhabi Corniche. This race is part of the celebration of the UAE’s Union Day.

Registration for the race will be open until Thursday, November 28, 2024, at the Emirates Sailing School. On the same day, a meeting will be held at 10 AM at the Mohammed Khalaf Majlis in Abu Dhabi to draw the race rounds and explain the rules. The boats will follow the colours of the UAE flag, and they must follow certain technical guidelines.

The race will cover three nautical miles along the Abu Dhabi Corniche. There will be 1,156 sailors from all over the UAE, competing in 68 boats. Each boat will have 17 sailors, including the coxswain. The race will have four rounds, with each round representing one of the colours of the UAE flag: red, green, white, and black.

The goal of this race is to preserve the UAE’s maritime traditions, like rowing, and to encourage younger generations to continue these traditions.
