Abu Dhabi bans 22 behaviours in schools

Schools in Abu Dhabi have become a bit stricter with new rules aimed at creating better environments for students and teachers.

The Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK) has introduced a new policy on professional ethics. This policy sets clear standards for educators, making sure that classrooms in the capital are places of respect, honesty, and fairness. The guidelines also aim to make schools safe and welcoming for everyone in the community.

The policy outlines six key standards for teachers, and it also bans 22 types of unprofessional behaviour. Think of it as a set of rules to ensure schools remain a positive place for learning.

Here’s what the six standards cover:

1. Respect for national identity and Emirati values
Teachers must create a respectful and inclusive environment. The following behaviours are not allowed:

  • Discrimination, harassment, or bullying of any kind
  • Wearing clothes that go against cultural values
  • Sharing extreme political, religious, or ideological views

2. Relations with colleagues
Teamwork is important, but teachers should avoid:

  • Gossiping or spreading rumours
  • Harassment or actions that make others uncomfortable
  • Keeping important work-related information to themselves

3. Legal commitments
Teachers must be honest and follow the law. Some behaviours that are not allowed include:

  • Lying about qualifications or work experience
  • Ignoring laws or hiding violations
  • Offering private tutoring without the proper permission

4. Digital activities
Teachers should be careful about how they use technology. They are banned from:

  • Misusing work devices
  • Sharing private student information online

5. Community protection
Teachers must ensure the safety of students, and certain behaviours are not allowed:

  • Any form of abuse (physical, verbal, or otherwise)
  • Failing to report abuse when it is witnessed
  • Making inappropriate comments or getting too close to students

6. Engagement with the community
Teachers should support positive change in the community, but they must avoid:

  • Doing fraudulent activities like unauthorized crowdfunding
  • Using social issues to promote extreme ideas

These new guidelines are designed to create an even better learning experience for children in Abu Dhabi. They help make sure that schools remain a place where respect, safety, and trust are the priorities.
