World's Largest Mosaic Artwork Unveiled in Hatta: Zayed and Rashid Mural

Brand Dubai, which is part of the Dubai Government Media Office, has worked together with the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) to reveal a new, huge mosaic artwork in Hatta. This artwork, called the Zayed and Rashid Mural, is the biggest mosaic in the world and honors the two founding fathers of the UAE, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum. The unveiling is part of the #ZayedAndRashid campaign, which celebrates important UAE events like Flag Day (3 November) and Eid Al Etihad (2 December).

The Zayed and Rashid Mural covers an amazing 2,198.7 square meters and is placed on the side of the Hatta Dam Water Falls. It shows a famous photo of the founding fathers from when the UAE was created. The artwork has replaced a previous mural that also honored the UAE's leaders. The Zayed and Rashid Mural has been recognized by Guinness World Records as the world’s largest mosaic artwork.

This mural is part of the Dubai Street Museum, which started in 2016 by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. The goal of the museum is to create art in public places all over Dubai to show the city's culture, history, and values. The unveiling of this mural adds to Dubai’s efforts to celebrate its rich heritage with beautiful art in public spaces.

His Excellency Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of DEWA, expressed his happiness to be part of this important project. He said the mural matches the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to make Hatta a well-known tourist and investment place while also protecting its natural beauty. Al Tayer also mentioned that the mural represents the values of the UAE’s founding fathers and supports the nation’s ongoing efforts toward development.

Her Excellency Mona Al Marri, Director General of the Government of Dubai Media Office, thanked DEWA for their help in making the mural a reality. She said the artwork shows respect for the UAE's history and the leadership of Sheikh Zayed and Sheikh Rashid, who built the foundation of the UAE.

Shaima Al Suwaidi, Director of Brand Dubai, shared her excitement about the mural. She said the project is a tribute to the founding fathers and shows the values that have guided the UAE. Al Suwaidi also said the mural is part of Brand Dubai’s mission to make public spaces in Dubai more engaging and artistic.

The mural was designed by Russian artist Sergey Korbasov, who worked with over 100 local and international artists from all over the world. They spent four months carefully putting together the mosaic using 1.2 million pieces, each measuring 5 x 5 cm. The artists used materials from the Hatta area, like rocks and soil, to make sure the mural connects with the local environment and heritage.

The design of the mural reflects the traditional clothing of the founding fathers and adds a special, emotional touch to the artwork. The colors and style are meant to honor the history of the UAE and show respect for the leaders who helped build the country.
