UAE Visa Rule INR 68,000 Essential for Travelers Tickets Insufficient

UAE's Visit Visa, designed for various purposes including family visits, tourism, and job exploration, now faces stricter scrutiny at airports. Recent reports highlight intensified inspections by immigration authorities, particularly at Kochi and Kozhikode airports in Kerala, aimed at detecting visitors intending to seek employment while on a visit visa.

Instances of travelers from Kottayam and Idukki districts in Kerala being detained due to insufficient travel documentation have surfaced. At Cochin International Airport alone, over 20 passengers were prevented from boarding flights, with similar incidents occurring at Calicut International Airport, resulting in the cancellation of approximately 30 travel plans.

To prevent unauthorized employment seekers, airlines are now enforcing regulations mandating tourist visa holders to present hotel reservation documents and have a buffer of 5,000 dirhams (around INR 1.3 lakh) for expenses. Those unable to comply, despite possessing visas and air tickets, were denied boarding and faced travel cancellations without refunds or rescheduling options, enduring lengthy airport waits before returning home.

Airline authorities have received directives necessitating hotel booking documents and a 5,000 dirhams buffer alongside visas and return tickets. Failure to comply could incur fines of 5,000 dirhams per passenger upon arrival in the UAE. These measures, unprecedented at airports, require travelers to carry or access 3,000 dirhams (approximately INR 68,000) for a one-month visa and 5,000 dirhams for longer stays, with credit cards meeting these thresholds also deemed acceptable.

Dubai immigration authorities have issued guidelines for tourists:
1) Passengers must provide details regarding the purpose of their visit, accommodation arrangements, and available funds, facing detention if responses are inadequate.
2) Tourist visa holders are prohibited from seeking employment, with agencies barred from promising job opportunities.
3) Visitors with employment visas must complete necessary procedures upon arrival to work legally.
4) Those engaging in tourist activities should provide details of their hotel accommodation, return tickets, and available funds.
5) Visitors visiting friends or relatives may be required to furnish copies of their hosts' visas and passports, along with contact and accommodation information.
