The UAE Jiu-Jitsu National Team, sponsored by Mubadala Investment Company, achieved an outstanding performance on the second day of the Jiu-Jitsu World Championship held in Heraklion, Greece, securing a total of seven medals. This impressive tally included two gold, three silver, and two bronze medals, showcasing the team’s strength and skill on the international stage.
Omar Al Suwaidi, competing in the 56 kg category, and Khaled Al Shehhi in the 62 kg category both earned gold medals for their remarkable performances. The silver medals were claimed by Balqees Abdul Karim (45 kg), Zayed Alkatheeri (56 kg), and Mohammed Al Suwaidi (69 kg). Additionally, Aysha Al Shamsi (45 kg) and Maitha Shraim (48 kg) added to the medal count with bronze finishes, further enhancing the UAE's standing in the championship.
Fahad Ali Al Shamsi, Secretary-General of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, expressed deep gratitude towards the UAE's wise leadership for their unwavering support, which has been crucial in preparing the national team and solidifying its presence on the global sports scene. He praised the achievements of both male and female athletes, emphasizing that their successes significantly boost the team's chances of defending the championship title.

Al Shamsi noted, “What our athletes have achieved today clearly demonstrates the success of the intensive preparation and training camps that were essential in refining their skills and enhancing their mental and physical capabilities.”
Omar Al Suwaidi, who won gold in the 56 kg category after facing fellow Emirati Zayed Al Katheeri in the finals, dedicated his victory to the UAE leadership, the people of the nation, and the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation. He expressed his gratitude for the support received throughout their journey, stating, “This victory is the result of months of hard work and preparation. I am grateful to the Federation, the technical staff, and everyone who helped us reach this level. We are focused on achieving more medals and titles.”
Khaled Al Shehhi, who took home the gold in the 62 kg category, shared his joy, saying, “This accomplishment brings indescribable happiness. I have worked hard, especially during the training camp. I am proud to raise the UAE flag on the podium and hear our national anthem—these are priceless moments of pride.”
The competitions are set to continue today, featuring the men’s 77 kg and 85 kg categories, alongside the women’s 57 kg and 63 kg categories. Representing the national team will be Mahdi Al Awlaqi and Sultan Al Hosni in the 77 kg division, Saeed Al Kubaisi in the 85 kg category, and Shamsa Al Amri and Al Anoud Al Hosni in the 57 kg category, with Shamaa Al Kalbani competing in the 63 kg category.
The UAE team’s impressive performance reflects the country’s commitment to excellence in Jiu-Jitsu and highlights the potential for further success as the championship progresses.
