The United Arab Emirates has strongly condemned recent remarks made by Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, in which he expressed plans to impose Israeli sovereignty over the Occupied West Bank by 2025. The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement rejecting the statements, describing them as provocative and destabilizing actions that threaten the stability of the region.

The UAE emphasized that any attempt to alter the legal status of Palestinian territories is unacceptable and undermines the prospects for a peaceful resolution. The government reiterated its commitment to the two-state solution, which envisions the establishment of an independent Palestinian state alongside Israel. The UAE called for greater regional and international efforts to advance the peace process and ensure a just resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
In addition, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs urged the international community to take immediate action to push for a ceasefire, to halt further violence and loss of life in the region. The statement highlighted the UAE’s ongoing commitment to supporting the Palestinian people in their pursuit of justice and peace.
Smotrich, a far-right Israeli minister, made his remarks during a speech on Monday, where he stated that the year 2025 would mark the beginning of Israeli sovereignty in the West Bank, also known as Judea and Samaria. His comments were framed in the context of the expected return of Donald Trump to power in the United States, which Smotrich described as a potential opportunity to move forward with the annexation of settlements in the disputed region.
The Israeli Finance Minister’s pledge to annex settlements in the West Bank, which Israel has occupied since 1967, is likely to further inflame tensions. Palestinians claim the West Bank as part of a future independent state, and they have long warned that the expansion of Israeli settlements is a significant obstacle to peace. The UAE’s condemnation comes as the situation in the region remains volatile, with both sides facing increased challenges in finding common ground for peaceful negotiations.
