U.S. President-elect Donald Trump has sparked a huge controversy with his recent social media posts, in which he expressed interest in acquiring Greenland, Canada, and the Panama Canal. He claimed that American ownership of these territories would benefit national security and the economy. His statements have upset leaders in Denmark, Panama, and Canada, who strongly rejected his remarks.

In one of the latest posts, Donald Trump's son, Eric Trump, shared a picture showing Trump buying Greenland, Canada, and the Panama Canal. He wrote, "We are so back!!!" This playful post added fuel to the fire and raised even more questions about the seriousness of these claims.

Trump’s Comments on Greenland

Trump has been particularly vocal about Greenland, calling American control of the island “an absolute necessity” for U.S. national security and global freedom. He posted on Truth Social, saying, “For purposes of national security and freedom throughout the world, the United States of America feels that the ownership and control of Greenland is an absolute necessity.”

His comments have angered many, including Danish politicians. Rasmus Jarlov, a Member of Parliament in Denmark's opposition Conservative Party, responded strongly. He called Trump's comments a threat, saying that dictators try to take control of other countries’ lands. On X (formerly Twitter), Jarlov posted, “Not sure whether it is a joke or not. But certainly not funny. One week Canada is threatened. Now Denmark. Greenland is Danish. It has been since 1380 and it will continue to be. This is undisputed, signed in rock in treaties and not open for negotiation at all.”

Trump’s Remarks on the Panama Canal

Trump also stirred controversy over the Panama Canal. On Monday, he shared a cryptic message on Truth Social, posting a picture of the U.S. flag flying above the canal. He wrote, “Welcome to the United States Canal! The Panama Canal is considered a vital national asset for the United States, due to its critical role to America's economy and national security. If the principles, both moral and legal, of this magnanimous gesture of giving are not followed, then we will demand that the Panama Canal be returned to us, in full, and without question. To the Officials of Panama, please be guided accordingly!"

This message prompted Panama’s President, Jose Raul Mulino, to respond. He strongly rejected Trump's claim, stating that every part of the Panama Canal belongs to Panama and will continue to remain under its control.

Trump’s Comments on Canada

Earlier, Trump also made waves by suggesting that Canada should become the 51st state of the United States. He posted on Truth Social that many Canadians would benefit from being part of the U.S. because it would save them money on taxes and provide military protection. Trump added, "I think it is a great idea. 51st State!!!" His suggestion caused confusion and backlash, especially since Canada has been independent for over a century.

Reactions from Other Countries

Leaders from all three territories—Greenland, Panama, and Canada—have rejected Trump's claims, calling them disrespectful and inappropriate. Politicians and citizens have strongly defended their nations' sovereignty, emphasizing that these territories will remain under their control.

Trump’s statements have sparked a major debate about U.S. foreign policy and how the world views the power of the United States. However, many experts believe that Trump’s comments are more about getting attention and less about actually making these acquisitions.
