US safety officials have ordered a recall of nearly all Tesla Cybertrucks on the road. This is the eighth recall for the vehicle since deliveries started a little over a year ago. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced the recall on Thursday, covering 46,096 Cybertrucks made between November 13, 2023, and February 27, 2025.

The issue is with a metal panel that runs along both sides of the windshield. This panel, called the cant rail, can come loose while driving. If it detaches, it can fly off and become a danger to other cars, which could cause accidents.
The NHTSA report said the panels were stuck on with a glue that can weaken over time. This makes it easier for the panels to fall off. To fix the problem, Tesla will replace the panel for free. They will use a stronger glue that will not break down easily and will also add extra support to keep the panels in place.
Cybertruck owners affected by the recall will get letters from Tesla by May 19, 2025. If they have any questions, they can call Tesla customer service at 1-877-798-3752. They can also contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit nhtsa.gov for more information.
Recently, videos on social media showed people pulling off the panels with their hands. These videos became popular online and raised concerns about the truck’s build quality.
The Cybertruck has faced eight recalls in 15 months, showing that the vehicle has had many safety problems. In November, Tesla recalled the trucks due to a faulty part that made the wheels lose power. In April 2024, they recalled the trucks again to fix pedals that could get stuck, making the truck speed up by mistake. Other past recalls were for windshield wipers and issues with the screen display.
The recall comes at a tough time for Tesla and Elon Musk. Since Donald Trump became president again, Musk has been leading a new government department that is cutting spending. But Tesla stores, car lots, and charging stations have become targets of vandalism.
Last month, in Colorado, police charged a woman with throwing Molotov cocktails at Tesla dealerships. She also spray-painted the words “Nazi cars” on a building. In South Carolina, federal agents recently arrested a man for setting fire to Tesla charging stations. Police found anti-government messages and Dogecoin (DOGE) symbols in his bedroom and wallet.
