On Thursday, Suryakumar Yadav was named India's new T20I captain, taking over from Hardik Pandya. Pandya, who had long been Rohit Sharma's deputy, was overlooked due to persistent fitness issues. The BCCI's decision prompted the selection committee to opt for Yadav.

An old video of Yadav discussing his leadership mindset emerged on social media. The clip, shared by Star Sports, shows Yadav reflecting on his captaincy during India's 2023 series victories over Australia and South Africa. He emphasized enjoying the role and keeping things simple, focusing on understanding team dynamics and maintaining rapport.

Shubman Gill, who led India in the recent T20I series against Zimbabwe, will serve as Yadav's deputy for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka. Notably, Pandya will not be leading the team. The squad also includes pacers Arshdeep Singh and Mohammed Siraj, and wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant, who were rested during the Zimbabwe tour.

India's tour of Sri Lanka begins on July 27 with a three-match T20I series, followed by a three-match ODI series starting August 1.
